We understand what it is like raising a child with autism as nearly every member of our Board and Committees have a child or loved one with autism in their family.
Come and connect with other families and individuals with autism at our support group meetings:
AZ ASSIST is a community of families of teens and young adults on the autism spectrum where self-advocacy and independence are promoted and encouraged. We have a great group of autistic adults who mentor our youth and a variety of professionals who generously share their time and expertise. Monthly meetings to explore transition issues, as well as social events in the community, provide opportunities for parents and youth to establish a community of support. Join us as we learn about transition, share our experiences, celebrate our successes and support each other on the journey to independence.
Arizona Autism Network of the West Valley has officially joined forces with the Autism Society of Greater Phoenix. Together with AZ ASSIST, we are all committed to working together to help educate and empower our Arizona Autism Community. The Arizona Autism Network of the West Valley will be primarily assisting families in the West Valley seek answers about services, provide networking opportunities, education and resources as well as organize community events which will allow for a stronger and more knowledgeable autism community.
East Valley Autism Network was founded in 2006 by 3 Autism Mom’s: Holly Reycraft, Melissa VanHook, and Katie Wride. What started out as a way to connect with other parents all attending the same school in Gilbert, grew to hundreds of families connecting, supporting each other, advocating in the school system and at the legislature over the years. We have held a monthly support group meeting for parents and caregivers in several locations over the years. We have a different speaker each month and also allow for families to meet and connect with each other before and after each meeting.
After seeing the need for support and help in the Central/South Phoenix area, Anani Vasquez, Michele Thorne, Anita Frayer, and Kenneth Mims created this group. Joining forces with the Autism Society of Greater Phoenix they hold a monthly support group meeting with a Lego Club, an Autism 101 Class, and a Parent’s Night Out. All meetings and events are Free for families to attend.
The Autism Society of Greater Phoenix has been providing information, resources and support to families all over the valley for over 45 years. The North Valley support group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8 PM at the Paradise Valley Community Center. This meeting includes a guest speaker and time to connect with other parents. There is also a Mom’s Meet Up, Lego Club and Autism 101 for this area of Phoenix.
The Autism Society of Greater Phoenix partners with two adult groups, one that meets in the East Valley at the Pyle Center and run by Tara Marshall and another in the North Valley at Paradise Valley Community College run by Dawn Oliver. Each group provides monthly meetings for individuals on the spectrum as well as their parents. A light meal is provided at each location. Each group is run a little differently.
We are excited to announce that we are starting a support group in Yuma for families with autism. We are partnering with some great parents who have taken the lead on making this happen starting October 2018. This group will meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 6 -7 PM at Gila Vista Junior High School on the corner of 22nd Street and Arizona Ave. No need to RSVP, just come and connect with other families. Light food will be provided.
